Vorbis is a new audio format that may well be the end off your mp3 collection. This is not the feeble attempt by the RIAA or other agencies or companies to introduce a way to limit your music, on the contrary this is absolute freedom. As consumers of mp3's we don't see the requirements to license the technology from the original developer Fraunhofer and other MPEG Consortium members. We do feel it in our wallets though with the increased cost of mp3 players both hardware and software. You see, the companies that make them must pay to use the mp3 format.
Our Review: Hmmm. A tricky program to assess, but the overall feeling is 'try again'. Basically this is an encoder to convert MP3 and WAV files into the newer OGG Vorbis audio format, which has yet to be proven in terms of superiority over MP3s (some may argue against this but any difference in sound and size is minimal).OGG Encoder-Decoder will convert at a number of different bitrates, but there are a few downfalls to the program. First there is the fact that this shareware version will only let you convert half a track, and secondly there is the fact that the program would crash half way through encoding (most of the time). All in all not a very convincing case to convert to using the OGG music format, but if you really must have a converter the obscurity of them means this is one of only a few choices.
