To record a vinyl LP to convert to a CD or group of MP3 Files you need to use a 'WAV file recorder' to store the recording as a WAV format file on your hard disk. Most general purpose WAV recorders are packed with functions. They tend to be complicated and time-consuming to configure and use. In contrast, LP Recorder has been designed with one purpose in mind - to record vinyl LPs. Connect the tape or line output from your stereo to the line input of your soundcard, enter a filename, select the recording input and press the record button. However, this utility also has the ability to encrypt to that most favorite of formats, MP3. LP Recorder doesn't come with a wide range of customisation options regarding the recording process but it does take care of the bulk of the process with a minimum of fuss. On the whole, it is pretty good and an obvious prospect for those people who want to hang on to their vinyl recordings for ever.
