QUARTET X2 is a digital 8-channel audio composer, editor and recording studio MP3 Encoder, and Player . Save it as a score file, edit notes, beat and tempo. Then record the finished score as a high quality WAV file and/or encode as MP3 file for distribution. The graphic interface resembles a sheet music score. You compose music by placing notes on a staff with your mouse. Each note is tracked as it is written, giving the name of the note and its audible tone. Selectively play back any portion or all of the composition, and edit it note by note. You can experiment with different combinations of instruments, octaves, tempos and beats, until you get it right. Then select from 15 WAV formats, ranging from 8 bit mono all the way up to 16 bit 2 channel stereo, and record your masterpiece. Using the built-in MP3 encoder, you can produce highly compressed MP3 files from your original compositions, WAV & MID files as well as your CD's. Our Review: It may seem like you are getting a lot with Quartet - an 8 track midi composer, audio player, MP3 Encoder... Unfortunately the sum of all its parts doesn't add up to much in the end. Composing the midi is simple, but Quartet offers only a bare-bones approach allowing you to only choose from a range of notes for each beat making it fine for beginners, but experienced users should look elsewhere. The audio player and MP3 encoder do the job, but suffer from the same awkward interface and lack the features that independent programs offer.
