Combining the Audiograbber and the XingMP3 Encoder programs, AudioCatalyst rips and encodes digital music from CDs. The XingMP3 Encoder engine encodes the music digitally, which enables you to make perfect copies of the original sound tracks as smaller sized MP3 or WAV files. AudioCatalyst includes functions that check to make sure that the encoded copies are made true to the original. AudioCatalyst can also automatically normalize the music and delete silence from the start and end of tracks.
Our Review: One of the most famous CD rippers for the MP3 format, AudioCatalyst is well worth the download for any user wanting to make MP3s from their CD archives. Very simple to use - just drop your CD into your PC, then AudioCatalyst will find out the title, artist, and song names online using CDDB and then all you have to do is is press "grab". AudioCatalyst allows you to choose the data rate for ripping (remember kids, a minimum of 128Kbs is needed to burn MP3s onto CD-R, although we reccomend 160Kbs), and it also includes a normalizing function (automatically corrects any volume disparities). Claims to be the fastest encoding available, and we think they're not far wrong. This trial version will not encode all tracks off a CD and the WAV to MP3 encoding function is disabled. It does, however, also come bundled with the Xing MP3 player, a competent Winamp Clone. A very good package for any MP3 user.
