With the AltaVista Sonic Burner, you can listen to CDs from a drive on your computer, listen to MP3 files on your hard disk, convert an audio selection on a CD into an MP3 or WAV file and store it on your hard disk, and create your own custom CDs by recording MP3 or WAV selections as audio on recordable CDs. Our Review: Sonic Burner is a fully featured, all-in-one MP3 and CD workstation which lets you rip, play and convert MP3 , WAV and CD audio files to your desired format. The stylish interface is marred by the inclusion of banners, but the program is free! (with an optional upgrade). Unfortunately, it doesn't feature any decent visualisation modes and MP3s can only be ripped up to a bit rate of 192k/sec. A capable program but lacking in enough features to keep it on your hard drive for long.
