SOLEX 7 is the year 2000 release of the ephemeris program SOLEX, implementing the model and the numerical integration algorithm described by the author in a recent paper [1].
Compared to SOLEX 5 (June 1999, file solex5f2.zip, downloadable from ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/msdos/astronmy), SOLEX 7 includes a number of new features, among them the possibility to take in account non-gravitational forces (in the case of comets) and to handle Earth’s satellites. This document describes the 32-bit version (Solex32), which requires Win95/98 or NT4. The 32 bits version is about 50% faster and includes mouse functionality. Source code is not provided with this release, but can be found within the previous DOS release (solex5f2.zip package).
Our Review: Wow! For those of you that reeeeeeally need an accurate astronomy program, this is for you. Solex can use several different ephemerides to accurately predict where the major planets in our solar system will be at certain times. I don't quite understand all of the features used, but hey, I'm just a poor uni-student with a minimal knowledge of astronomy. This program would be great for professors and home enthusiasts, or generally anyone who knows what they are doing :)
