Looking for a challenging action game? Solaris is a high-res, high-speed side-scrolling shooter from Apollo Interactive that will make your palms sweat and your trigger finger ache. Choose one of three ships to fly combat missions through the most incredibly detailed environments you've ever seen. Want to talk firepower? Missiles, bombs, lasers, shields, you name it - you've got it.
Our Review: Solaris is a somewhat typical side-scrolling action game where you fly a small ship through an assortment of tight squeezes while trying to blow away anything that moves. The graphics are lovely, with great attention to background animation (which is sometimes hard to distinguish from that in the foreground), silky smooth scrolling and superb explosions. The weapons are your standard arcade selection with the ability to pile them on until your ridiculous arsenal destroys half the screen in one shot, but you'll need them as there is always a constant barrage of baddies flying at you from all directions. Not the most original game out there, and not an especially easy one, but Solaris gives your trigger finger a respectable work out and should please most action-hungry fans.
