Oni (pronounced "oh-nee") is a computer action game viewed in the third person perspective by Bungie Software, makers of the Myth and Marathon series' of games. The first game of it's type to blend complex hand-to-hand combat (ala Tekken/Virtua Fighter) with gun-toting carnage (ala Quake), Oni is about the story of Konoko: a woman with an unknown past and a destiny to become a demon.
Our Review: Usually, when we hear the words "Third person action game", we think of the Tomb Raider series and simply yawn at the thought of the same monotonous gameplay over and over again. But this was pleasantly not the case with Oni (the name may not jump up and grab many). It is, without a doubt, the best third person-ever! It has gorgeous visuals, a game engine that is rock solid, player controls that are easy to pick up on and allow you to play effectively, and much, much more. Oni has a cool "Manga" feel about it and the storyline is gripping as you play the role of a cyber-police type chick. There are heaps of weapons to pick up and all have very cool targeting systems, but if you are like us, then you will prefer to take out the bad guys the old fashioned way; with your hands and feet. The hand-to-hand combat engine is very good and your moves are on a par with Jackie Chan, with combos, throws, and out and out brawling. This demo is simply huge and will have most users eagerly anticipating the full version. So save your pocket-money, throw away your 1st person shooters, and get ready to rumble. Sweet!
