Avernum is from Spiderweb Software, makers of Nethergate and the award-winning Exile series. Our Review: Hmmm... A mysterious underworld, a band of four creatures, the word dexterity - yes we are definitely right in the middle of traditional RPG country here. Avernum might not have an orginial bone in its 16-bit isometric body but there's just something about the neverending popularity of snakemen, spells, busty maidens and lock-picking that will ensure that RPG nuts should get something out of this impressible large-scale tale. The lack of animation is probably the biggest let-down although graphics have never been what role-playing is all about - it's all about the quests, and Avernum has these in spades. So get out your notebook, print out the Avernum map and immerse yourself in this truly old-school adventure.
