Interactive astronomy, a virtual observatory in which to explore realistic skies in real-time, with observing log, list, ephemerides, location browser, and sophisticated searches embracing the solar system, DSOs, and over 15500 stars. Effects include scintillation, extinction, refraction, and precession in point-source, photoplate, and spotlight display modes, with the complete Messier catalog in ImageIcons featured as standard.
Our Review: An extremely comprehensive, well-presented and interactive virtual observatory. Stella 2000 is similar to Adastra, but provides even more information and functionality. The interface is easy to use as you flick between windows, and display and data options are easily accessible via the 'right-click' context menus. There is also a reference that supplies interesting and informative information about different aspects of astronomy. Stella 2000 is suitable for both serious and casual astronomers alike. Information-wise it is a valuable application that can be used in the classroom or at home. This new version includes a new drag-mode similar to moving your head whilst looking at the sky and an expanded version of Aspects of Astronomy. One thing that would be handy would be a compass indicating which direction you are pointing.
