HomeWatcher takes snapshots at regular time intervals, compares the snapshot with the previous one and saves the snapshot when motion is detected. HomeWatcher creates webpages and dials to the internet (if necessary) to upload the snapshots and webpages to your website (using FTP). You can also choose to store the snapshots and webpages locally. You can customize all the parameters involved: the sensitivity of the motion detection algorithm, the mode and interval, the number of snapshots you want to keep on your website, the layout of the webpages, the minimum and maximum number of uploads per hour, etcetera.
Our Review: HomeWatcher is the perfect program for the security-conscious/paranoid homeowner. The actual desktop interface is a small, well laid out window with many options, which reflect the many features available for the program. The ability to automatically publish the pictures of suspected movement to the web (so you can check on your home while out of town) is rather innovative and makes this freeware limited-use version of HomeWatcher a good introduction to home security.
