MERCUR offers the necessary features to provide an efficient and effective communications medium. These include Security features using IP-Caching Firewall, List Server, Remote Configuration via a Web Browser, Dial-Up-connectivity (Modem, ISDN-Card), dedicated connectivity (ISDN-Router) or connectivity over the network (Router) to your ISP. MERCUR can be used as a simple Gateway to route SMTP Messages or as fully automated POP3/IMAP4 mail server. MERCUR was developed in accordance with the current SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol in RFC821), POP3 (Post Office Protocol Version 3 in RFC1939) , IMAP4 (Internet Message Access Protocol Version 4rev1 in RFC2060) and DNS (Domain Name System in RFC882, -883) industry standards. MERCUR supports ODBC connectivity to databases like SQL, ORACLE, FOXBASE, and Microsoft ACCESS. ODBC Connectivity allows administrators the ability to manage user data and event log data on an external database. The ODBC feature offers administrators an open system with the ability to easily manipulate data for report purposes. With a powerful ODBC compliant database (SQL, ORACLE, FOXBASE, Microsoft ACCESS), MERCUR can manage large numbers (50,000 +) of users with fast access to the data. Also, by using an external database administrators can design custom interfaces and tools to integrate MERCUR into a company’s network or end-user requirements. With Mercur you can share one mail account with many (50,000+) users - each with their own individual mailbox and secure connection. Mercur is compatible with external databases such as ACCESS and SQL - allowing administrators to manage data logs and user databases from within a fully customisable interface. Mercur also includes daemon services that allow auto-responders to be configured to generate auto replies to incoming mail. This also allows Mercur to manage subscription lists that allow subscribers to remotely subscribe or unsubscribe to newsletters. Many other features, such as the ability for the admin to remotely launch applications via email, make Mercur Mail Server a sturdy choice for providing email services.
