MetaProducts Offline Explorer (OE) is a Windows 9x/NT program that allows you to download your favorite Web and FTP sites (up to 100 simultaneously) for later offline viewing, editing or browsing. OE also has many web development features that will allow you to easily edit, view or browse your downloaded Web pages (OE has a built-in internal browser.) One of OE strengths is to allow you to selectively (include or exclude) individual servers, directories, and files using only keywords. OE is known for its excellent user interface and as one of the fastest known Web site downloaders available on the market today. Support of industry-standard technologies, like FTP, different proxy servers, Macromedia Flash, Cookies, a built-in internal HTTP server that allows you to share downloaded files over an Intranet, makes Offline Explorer the leader in offline browsing. Export feature allows you to copy downloaded sites to another location in different formats. Our Review:Offline Explorer is a powerful, fast and relatively easy to use offline browser. While the interface is functional rather than interesting, it does make it extremely easy to download an entire site from the web. Once sitting nicely on your hard-disk, Offline Explorer displays a browser window and the site map which allows easy browsing and searching capability. While simple with good support, there are other useful features, such as the specified and scheduled downloads that will please the serious user. This new version comes with a range of bugfixes and updates, notably the ability to download using a SOCKS5 proxy and improved FTP support. Fitting a range of needs, this flexible and comprehensive package comes highly recommended. |
