The Sambar Server was created to test a three-tier communication infrastructure modeled after the Sybase Open Client/Open Server. Soon thereafter, the idea of leveraging the infrastructure for dynamic delivery of content on the WWW resulted in the addition of an HTTP protocol stack, and efforts in supporting the notion of presistent users via HTTP.
Our Review: The Sambar Server program on the surface is very plain, as the core of the program is server web page generated. Concise, powerful, easy to install and have running in seconds, Sambar server can serve HTTP, FTP, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, and proxies of all these types, and advanced features such as ASP and compression are easy to implement. The security of the server can be made very strong; administrator rights and locations, user names and privileges and a plethora of logs can be made. Very functional and informative, the Sambar Server is an open project and getting better with each version. Well worth a good hard look through.
