PortFlash is a tool for network administrators and computer security professionals. It scans through a list or range of IP addresses and ports looking for running services such as FTP or HTTP. This is useful in determining not only whether authorized services are functioning, but also if there are unauthorized services running. If someone on the network has set up a rogue FTP or HTTP server, PortFlash can detect it.
Use of PortFlash is pretty straightforward: Simply define a range or list of IP addresses and ports to be scanned and then start the scan. PortFlash will go through each IP checking the ports specified and when it finds an open port it will report back. If the open port it finds is in the list of well known ports it will inform you which services is generally run on that port.
Our Review: This is a great little application that scans ports of a network system and reports back on the status of them. The uses for a product like this are endless although some of them could also have potential to be mischievious.
