ShutDown NOW! is a well known shutdown-automation utility since 1996, which is now updated to the fourth major release with a new look and a lot of new features, like: comfortable remote shutdown via commandline parameters with abort-, message- and countdown-support, four new countdown-timers, like inactivity-, planed-, period and 24-h countdown, empty the Recycle Bin or to the RB, even by system-hotkey, a dockable "PlayGround" tool-window, a "Last Chance Countdown", and not at least new shutdown-options, like "Lock Workstation" and "Force PowerOFF". - Since earlier releases SHDN! also can start applications before shutdown, eject- and retract (load) devices' media for all ATAPI+SCSI CD-ROM, as well as all other SCSI devices, also by system- hotkey, has event-logging capabilities, an advanced three security- level password protection feature, countdown-warning, full command- line support, and not at least is supported by "MotherBoard Monitor" (Freeware) for to shut down overheated computers in case of emergency. The latest enhancement was support for four ACPI power-off modes under MS-Windows 2000: suspend, hibernate, force suspend & force hibernate, which now are available from a Desktop session, as well as via commandline switches. - SHDN! now supports different languages and comes with US-English and German by default. Our Review: A very fancy utility that allows easy customisation and automation of shutting down Windows. It has several extra features which are accessed via a pretty looking interface. The installation is smooth and operation almost flawless, making this program a worthwhile replacement for the standard Windows shutdown option. Version 4.20 includes multi-language support and several security/compatibiltity bug fixes.
