Advanced Archive Password Recovery (or ARCHPR for short) can be used to recover lost or forgotten passwords to ZIP (PKZip, WinZip), ARJ/WinARJ, RAR/WinRAR (2.x) and ACE/WinACE (1.x) archives. At the moment, there is no known method to extract the password from such compressed files, so the only available methods are "brute force" and dictionary attacks (for ARJ and ZIP formats, known-plaintext attack is also available). The key features of ARCHPR are: The program has a convenient user interface The program is very fast: for ZIP, brute-force attack speed is up to fifteen million passwords per second (on Pentium III) PKZip 4.0 archives (with digital signatures and deflate64 compression method) are supported Known plainext attack is available The program can work with archives containing only one encrypted file only (at the same speed) Self-extracting archives are supported The program is customizable: you can set the password length (or length range), the character set to be used to generate the passwords, and a lot of other options You can select the custom character set for brute-force attack (non-English characters are supported) Dictionary-based attack is available The "brute-force with mask" attack is available The maximum password length is not limited (there are some practical limitations, though) No special virtual memory requirements You can interrupt the program at any time, and restart from the same point later The program can work in the background, using the CPU only when it is in idle state Our Review: A nice combination password recovery program that can recover passwords from all the popular compression formats. ARCHPR has some well-designed algorithms that maximise on speed - the program even can run in the background and only hog processor time when it won't inconvenience your other programs. Four different methods of password recovery are included in this program, with the ability for the program to automatically save its progress at set intervals so that the intense effort is not wasted should your computer accidently crash. Various password masks and formats can be specified to narrow down (and hence speed up) your password recovery. Recommended.
