ARJ is a program that allows the user to store one or more files in a compressed format in an archive file. This saves space both in the compression and in the saving of disk sector clusters. On a hard disk, each file requires a minimum amount of space, typically, 2048 to 16384 bytes. Combining 100 small files in an archive can save 200K bytes of space or more.
Our Review: Ok, so it's a DOS based archiver. For those of you that can't remember back to the good old days of DOS, that means that you get no pretty windows or icons - just grey text on a background and a flashing cursor. ARJ is a compression agent that, like Winzip, compresses files. When compressing the same directory with both Winzip and ARJ, the winzip file was 1 k smaller so it doesn't really matter which program you use. ARJ is a good, well established compression program and comes with a wealth of other utilities. Recommended for those who want a change.
