From a central PC you will configure (‘build’) small inventory agents which are then distributed (via the network, email or floppy disk) to the computers to be audited. The audit data that is created is then returned to the central console (again via the network, email or floppy disk) to be collated and analyzed using standard or custom reports. Our Review: Lan Auditor comes with a good example database, complete with many of the common queries you will typically need to run, such as "software found" and "basic win32 hardware". Of course, as well as these, the user is able to create their own queries. Lan Auditor is aimed at the experienced network user and comes with a fairly good help file. This evaluation version allows you to audit 25 nodes.
