Silver Key is a program that encrypts files or folders, and produces self-extracting encrypted files, which can be sent over the Internet. Unlike Kryptel, Silver Key does not require your correspondent to have any cryptographic software installed. The only thing the recipient needs to decrypt the data is the right password or key.
When you encrypt a file with Silver Key (dragging it to the Silver Key icon, for example), the program first compresses and encrypts the file, and then attaches a small decrypting program to the encrypted file. When your correspondent receives the file, he must execute it in order to decrypt the data.
Our Review: This is some very strong cryptographic software which has a very nice drag-and-drop interface that anyone can use. Silver Key has support for about 5 popular and powerful encryption methods including BlowFish, Triple-DES and TwoFish. It supports very large keys (hundreds of characters long) or passwords and has backups and compression built in. It is fully operational shareware and has a very cheap registration fee. Excellent.
