This program (Advanced ZIP Password Recovery, or simply AZPR)
can be used to recover the lost password for a ZIP archive. At
the moment, there is no known method to extract the password
from the compressed file, so the only available methods are
"brute force", dictionary-based and known-plaintext attacks.
Our Review: Well, if you have a fast machine, or have some idea of what the password might be then this is the program for you. If not, then be prepared to wait a while. Advanced Zip Password Recovery has several ways of finding out the password, the slowest way being searching every single combination of letters and numbers. Of course, if they have used $%&!@# or any other special characters, or UPPER CASE letters, then it gets exponentially longer. It has other modes of operation too, where you put in a mask of what you think the combination might be, which narrows things down. It also does dictionary searches, where it goes through the dictionary looking for words. All in all, a slow way to crack a zip file, but when there is no other way to do it... Advanced Zip Password Recovery is a good program, that is easy enough to use, with a little help from the help files.
