FilZip 2000
FilZip 2000 is an archiving utility for Windows 95/98/NT. It now supports about 15 archive types, like arj, cab, rar, tar, lha and many more. Its many features include the Windows integration, e.g. drag&drop, compressing & extracting files from the context menu), new features like multiExtract and other functions like FastExtract. Of course it comes with an SFX-Creator, you can rename, move copy or delete archives within filzip. Zipping features: add, delete, view, open files from an archive, view the zip comment, password protect zip files, test files while extracting, automatic installation of archives. You can easily convert an archive into another format send one over the internet via the built-in emailer. Our Review: The obvious comparison for zipping utiltities is WinZip, so let's compare. First of all, FilZip does the job - it can compress and extract fifteen different file types. So can Winzip. FilZip can email files - so can WinZip. I could go on, but basically, FilZip gives no incentive to switch from WinZip, other than the user's desire not to use monopoly products. FilZip also has an ugly interface and lacks the right-click "add to zip" feature that WinZip has. Having said all that, it's still a good product in it's own right.
